If you are going to to visit the Lombardy capital and land at one of the city’s airports, in this article you can find useful tips on how to reach Milan from the airports.
The city of Milan is served by three airports: Malpensa, Linate and Bergamo Orio Al Serio.
There are multiple ways to reach the city center from each of them and soon we will see them all in detail.
How to reach Milan from the airports: Milano Malpensa
The Milan Malpensa airport is the largest in the city and consists of two terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
It does not matter in which terminal you will land, in fact, the means of transport to get to the center of Milan and the rates are the same.
There are, in particular, three ways to reach Milan: bus, train and taxi.
Bus
There are three bus companies that serve Milan Malpensa:
- Terravision, 8€ per way;
- Autostradale, 8€ per way;
- Malpensa Shuttle, 10€ each way.
All run every 20/30 minutes.
At Terminal 1 you can find them at Exit 4 on the arrivals floor.
At Terminal 2, however, it does not matter from which door you will exit because the buses stop all in the large square where all the ports of the terminal converge.
The journey time is about 1 hour depending on traffic.
The buses in Milan stop both Fieramilano CITY / MICO (stop on request) and at the Central Station (last stop).
Train
If you do not want to be subject to traffic or other unforeseen events, the best solution is the train.
The trains are operated both by Trenitalia and by Trenord and run about every 30 minutes.
They reach the stations of Milano Cadorna (journey time about 40 minutes) and Milano Centrale (journey time about 1 hour).
The price is 13€ per way for both stations.
The stations are located in the basement of Terminal 1 and in a separate location in Terminal 2. Leaving the terminal you have to follow a canopy in the direction of Trains. There are a lot of signs, so it’s really impossible to get lost.
Taxi
As a last option, there are taxis that do not have a fixed fare, but on average a ride to the city center of Milan has a cost of 95€.
At Terminal 1 they are located at exit 8, while at Terminal 2 they are always in the central court where there are also buses.
Car Rental
Finally, if you have rented a car, the rental stations are located in the basement of Terminal 1 and in the train station of Terminal 2.
How to reach Milan from the airports: Milano Orio Al Serio
The second largest airport is Orio Al Serio, also called “Il Caravaggio” and located in Bergamo.
Here there are no trains to reach it, but only buses and taxis.
Bus
As for Milan Malpensa, there are three bus companies: Terravision, Autostradale and Orio Shuttle.
All have a cost of 5€ each way and are located in the bus parking just off the arrivals exit.
The journey time is about 40 minutes depending on the traffic.
Taxi
Taxis are also just outside the arrivals exit.
They do not have a fixed rate, but the cost for a ride to the central area of Milan is about 100€.
Car Rental
If you have rented a car, finally, the rental counters are located just before the exit.
How to reach Milan from the airports: Milano Linate
Finally, there is the Milan Linate city airport.
Also for this airport there are two means: bus and taxi. Hopefully, however, in a few years they will also open a metro station, the M4 or blue line.
Bus
There are two types of bus: the airport shuttle and the bus lines.
The airport shuttle is operated by three companies: Starfly, Airbus and Autostradale (cost of 5€ each way).
They are located opposite exit 6 of the Arrivals area and run every 30 minutes or so.
The city bus is operated by ATM and is the number 73. It makes all the stops, but costs 2€ per ride.
It is located outside exit 7. The downside is that there is no space dedicated to luggage and it is not said that you will have the seat secured.
Taxi
Taxis are located outside exit 6 and a ride to the city centre costs around 50€.
Both by taxi and by bus the journey time is about 20 minutes to arrive to the Central Station, depending on the traffic.
Car Rental
Finally, if you have rented a car, the rental stations are located inside the airport just near the exit 7.
